Maya's Story


On a beautiful sunny day in May 2006, a pretty little four year old girl named Maya Hirsch spent a wonderful afternoon at the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago with her mother and her older brother, but when they left the zoo they did not all make it home.

The Stop for Maya Foundation


Stop for Maya is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to promoting harmony and awareness among pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers on Chicago's busy roadways. 

Thank you to everyone who came out and participated in our 5th Annual Walk for Maya. We really appreciate all the love and support that surrounded the event as well as throughout the year. The 5th Annual Walk for Maya, held on September 25th, 2011, was an overwhelming success, and the Foundation thanks all those who joined us. A special thanks goes to the Honorary Chairman of the Walk, Illinois Senate President John J. Cullerton, NBC 5 Chicago reporter Lauren Jiggetts, who was the emcee for the second year in a row, and all of our sponsors.
